January 16th & 17th, 2010

Kim Terrill, Cynosport Champion, is returning to Smarty Paws for two days of agility seminars. The schedule includes puppy, weave and handling seminars. Kim will also be offering private and semi-private agility and obedience lessons on Friday, January 15th.

February 6th & 7th, 2010

Gayle Workman will be returning to Las Vegas for a two-day tracking dog seminar. Gayle will also be here on February 8th and 9th for private lessons.

March 18th & 19th, 2010

Brenda's Agility Training Center (BATC) will host a TDAA Judge's Clinic. On March 20th and 21st, a TDAA trial will be held at BATC and will be judged by the participants of the Judge's Clinic on March 18th and 19th.

April 17th & 18th, 2010

Denise Fenzi presents Building Drive and Motivation - A Seminar for Performance Dogs. This two-day seminar is hosted by Happy Tails Family Dog Training. Limited private lessons may also be available on Monday, April 18th.

First, let's give a big round of applause to all of the hard-working dog/handler teams this year. So many accomplishments and hat's off to all of you. A huge congratulations to Florance Goldsworthy and Razzie who earned their MACH2 in November at the Poodle Club trial. What a fabulous team they are! To end the year, Kelly Keele and his partner Ish earned their MACH on December 5th. As if that were not enough, his wife Lori and her partner Lola earned their MACH the next day! We appreciate their dedication to attending our trials and hope they continue to make the long trek to Las Vegas for many years to come. We love having them here! It was wonderful to see Karen and Stanley run at the AKC Agility Invitational in Long Beach. Jennifer and Abby were also there and had great runs. She may live in NY, but she's still a "Vegas Girl".

Now, for 2010...

There will be a lot going on this year so stay tuned. There are many members with green pups, so it will be exciting to see them excel in their newfound performance careers. We also look forward to watching those of you who are approaching big milestones in agility, with just a few double Q's and points to go. We also have lots of local interest in tracking. If you are interested, please contact us and we will point you in the right direction. 

We have four agility trials left this Winter/Spring season; CPE in January, AKC in February and April, and NADAC in March. Visit the Doggy Doin's page for the CPE premium. There's still time to enter! AKC and NADAC premiums will be up soon. Don't be surprised if another CPE trial pops up in the Spring or Summer too, if we can sweet talk Tom into being Trial Chair again.

We've also heard the huge buzz about UKI, and we are sure to discuss this new venue in our January meeting. Please attend the meetings if you want your voice heard! Your contributions are vital to keeping agility alive in Southern Nevada. Not only is it a team sport with dog/handler, it's also a team sport with all of us working together to keep our trials successful.

The weather has been beautiful for outdoor events! Let's hope Mother Nature treats us well for the next couple of weeks while we approach our last trial of the year on December 5th and 6th. Although closed for entries, there are 2 fantastic events in which ALL dogs over 15 months of age can participate. Both events will take place on Saturday, December 5th. See rules and requirements below:

All dogs needing height cards . . . Take advantage of this one!

A special call out to our mixed breed friends who will be able to participate in AKC companion events effective April 2010. A "Canine Partners Listing" must be obtained BEFORE you measure. HURRY, HURRY, HURRY! The good news is, you can apply now online at the AKC website.

TIME 2 BEAT DEMO

After all regular classes run on Saturday, we will hold a demo for an exciting new proposed agility class called Time 2 Beat (T2B). ALL eligible dogs (over 15 months of age) on the show grounds, can participate in the demo! This means, you can have your mixed-breed dog measured, then run in the demo, how fun is that!!

T2B will be $5 per run, per dog, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Canine Health Events.

ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN A BOULDER CITY RELEASE OF LIABILITY.

We invite everyone to come out to help with the demos.  Both offer a great opportunity for additional agility training in a different environment with all the distractions.  Come on out and get in on some free agility practice.
 

Saturday - Mutts N' Masters
Where:   LV Parks and Leisure Center, 101 N Pavilion Center, LV, 89144
(located between Palo Verde High School and Sig Rogich Middle School)  We'll be on the ball field directly behind the Leisure Center building

We will be practicing all morning.  Our official demo time is between 9:30 am to 10:00 am.   Then we will allow the public to bring their dogs onto selected equipment.  (no contacts for public use)
 
Bring a doggie costume and participate in the costume contest!
 
MUTTS N' MASTERS TIME SCHEDULE
Setup:  7 am....must be done by 8 am
Registration for walk & run:  8 am
Walk & run: 9am
Agility Demo:  9:30 - 10 am

Sheltie Club will be offering a Time 2 Beat (T2B) demo after the conclusion of all regular classes on Saturday, October 24.
